Two charged with murder in Monday shooting

Two are facing murder charges for the death of Malik Vallarie who was pronounced dead at the scene of a shooting in Vicksburg on Monday.

Around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, officers responded to the Waltersville area in reference to reports of shots fired. Police were able to locate a firearm that was believed to have been involved in the incident. Four people were initially detained in relation to the shooting which occurred behind Fire Station No.9 at Waltersville Street and Old Mill Road.

Witnesses stated that an altercation that started on the basketball court next to the station escalated into a shooting. Witnesses also state Vallarie tried to escape the gunfire by running toward the brush in the northwest section of the playground, behind the animal shelter but collapsed due to his wounds.

Vicksburg Police Department announced on Tuesday that Laquesha Davis, 29, and Damarion Reed, 15, currently remain in custody. Both Vicksburg residents are facing murder charges at this time. Davis will be receiving an extra charge of instructing a juvenile to commit a felony.

They are scheduled to appear in Vicksburg Municipal Court at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
