The Vicksburg YMCA has extended girls and boys basketball registration through Nov. 30.

YMCA basketball will consist of three leagues, each with girls and boys teams: 7 year olds, 8 and 9 year olds, and the senior prep league of 10 through 12 year olds.

Boys aged 8 through 12 will need to try out before being placed on a team.

Tryouts for the 8 and 9-year-olds boys league will held Nov. 30 at the YMCA at 5:30 p.m. To be eligible, a participant’s eighth birthday must have been before Sept. 1, 2020.

Tryouts for senior prep 10, 11 and 12-year-old boys are scheduled for Dec. 1 at the YMCA. Children in the senior prep league can only participate if their 10th birthday was before Sept. 1.

For more information or to register your child to participate, call 601-638-1071 or go to the front desk at the YMCA. Registration is $60 for YMCA members and $70 for non members.

Warren Central High School football player Tevin Bell finished his senior season as one of the best cornerbacks in the city.

Although the Vikings only played eight games on the field this year, Bell still managed to put up impressive stats.

During the the 2020 football season, Bell had five interceptions on the Vikings defense and became well known for his ability to shut down any wide receiver who lined up against him. He also had eight pass deflections along with 16 tackles on the year.

With his great athletic ability, Bell is the player his coaches turned to for a big play.

“Tevin is the type of athlete you want to build your program based on,” said Vikings assistant coach Ced Jackson. “Hardworking, determination, versatile, respectful and most of all, coachable. His passion and love for the game and his team could never be questioned, and it was an honor to be his coach and watch him grow as a person.”

Bell really showed off his talents when the Vikings played against Madison Central where he caught two big interceptions in the 8-0 victory for Warren Central.

He has not announced his future plans but scholarship offers should be rolling in soon for this outstanding athlete.
