Warren County resident Tina Daffron and her brother were picking up scrap and aluminum cans on Old Cain Ridge Road last week when they made a startling discovery. The area has apparently become a dumping ground for deceased animals.

Daffron found numerous dog and deer carcasses on the side of the road. Some had been there for many weeks as evidenced by their skeletal remains, and many of the dogs still had collars. She filed a report with the Vicksburg Police Department and contacted Jackson TV station WJTV who did a story on the issue.

On Monday, Daffron said she reported the issue to Warren County Human Society Director Georgia Lynn and South Ward Alderman Alex Monsour. Monsour has urged the Vicksburg Police Department to investigate, and he is erecting signage along the roadway to discourage illegal dumping.

When this reporter visited the area, numerous remains of various animals littered the side of the road. The Vicksburg Animal Control Department has removed all the canine remains that it could, and the police have increased patrols in the area in hopes of catching individuals dumping in the area.

Area residents are quite disturbed that this is going on in their neighborhood but declined further comment.

This matter remains under investigation.

The Vicksburg Daily News will report further developments as they become available.
