Warren County firefighters assist at Monday night towboat fire

A towboat caught fire overnight on the Yazoo River near Satartia.

Just before midnight Monday, Sept. 21, Yazoo County Emergency Management requested mutual aid from Warren County, and firefighters responded to the towboat fire.

The motor vessel Lantana belonging to Vicksburg-based Riverside Construction sustained significant damage to its engine room, according to Northeast Fire Chief Shane Garrard.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire, and the U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the cause and nature of the incident.

Vicksburg-based Big River Ship Builders has dispatched a vessel to retrieve the damaged towboat and bring it back to Vicksburg.

Warren County Fire Coordinator Jerry Briggs also responded to the incident.

House fire on Sherwood Drive in Vicksburg

Vicksburg firefighters responded to a house fire at 126 Sherwood Drive off of Porter’s Chapel Road just before 6 p.m. Saturday.

The fire originated in the kitchen area and caused heavy smoke. No one was home at the time of the fire and there are no injuries.

“Fast response from firefighters on Engine 2 and Engine 8 saved the home from having extensive damage,” said Vicksburg Fire Chief Craig Danczyk. They remain on the scene removing smoke and heat from the home.

Apartment fire at the Park at Milestone

Vicksburg firefighters responded to a structure fire at The Park at Milestone at 6332 Common Circle at 11:26 a.m. Friday.

A resident reported smoke coming from below their unit.

The fire was quickly extinguished and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Ladder 15, Engines 7 and 8, Rescue and Fire Medic 30, along with Battalion 1, responded.

Morning fire at Eaton Cooper Lighting in Vicksburg

Eaton Cooper Lighting at 5035 U.S. Highway 61 South in Vicksburg was the scene of a fire Thursday morning.

Vicksburg firefighters were dispatched to the fire at 8:07 a.m. The call indicated flames and smoke were showing. Upon arrival firefighters found a piece of industrial equipment on the south side of the facility on fire, and they were able to quickly extinguish it. It’s unclear what caused the fire at this time.

All employees were evacuated from the building and are safe. No injuries have been reported.

Units responding included Engines 2, 8, Rescue, a Fire Medic Unit, Battalion 1 and Chief Craig Danczyk along with Deputy Chief Trey Martin.
