A towboat caught fire overnight on the Yazoo River near Satartia.

Just before midnight Monday, Sept. 21, Yazoo County Emergency Management requested mutual aid from Warren County, and firefighters responded to the towboat fire.

The motor vessel Lantana belonging to Vicksburg-based Riverside Construction sustained significant damage to its engine room, according to Northeast Fire Chief Shane Garrard.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire, and the U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the cause and nature of the incident.

Vicksburg-based Big River Ship Builders has dispatched a vessel to retrieve the damaged towboat and bring it back to Vicksburg.

Warren County Fire Coordinator Jerry Briggs also responded to the incident.
