Jackson State University head coach Deion Sanders coached his last high school football game last night at Trinity Christian High School where they won the Texas Christian Athletic League Championship.

Sanders is the Tiger’s offensive coordinator and his son, Shedeur, is the team’s starting quarterback. They defeated the Heir Eagles Academy 59-28 to finish with a great 8-3 record.

Sanders posted members of his team on Twitter after the big win and showed how proud they are to be the champs.

Sanders also had three Vicksburg natives on the championship team who all contributed to winning the big game. Shardez Taylor, Marvin Martin Jr, and Quentin Pollard all had great performances this season for the Tigers.

Saturday’s game marked Sanders’ final game at Trinity. His focus is now on his new Jackson State football family. He was named head coach for JSU two months ago. He has already begun bringing in major recruits for Jackson State,  including Shedeur who will be joining him next year.

Former Vicksburg Junior High assistant basketball coach DeAndre King is now coaching at Porter’s Chapel Academy where he is assisting with the girls’ basketball team.

King began coaching in 2015 at VJHS under head coach Julius Williams. They led the Gators to win the Little Six Championship that year.

King coached under VJHS head basketball coach Jerdon Hardiman last year, finishing the season with a 18-1 record. He also helped the team reach the Little Six Championship that year, falling just short of victory to Clinton.

Now that King has made the move over to PCA, he is coaching under Casey Fisher and alongside Chandler Ellis. With King’s assistance, the Lady Eagles have been gaining much success this season.

King has now helped the Lady Eagles to a 4-2 record as they continue to grow and improve each week. The Eagles are  set to play against Deer Creek tomorrow at 6 p.m. at home.

Published

St. Aloysius senior football player Wes Warnock finished his final season with the Flashes on a high note.

The cornerback led the Flashes in interceptions this season as they finished with a 4-7 record under head coach Stacey Sizemore. He managed to grab 4 interceptions by the end of the year along with numerous big tackles.

One of Warnock’s best performances was against Copiah Academy where he had a career high 12 tackles. He also had 3 catches in that game and finished with 20 yards.

Warnock will be remembered at St. Al for being a shutdown defensive back who didn’t allow wide receivers to catch long passes.

Warnock may have completed his high school football career, but the versatile athlete is not through with sports.  He has committed to playing baseball at Hinds Community College next year.
