Vicksburg police arrest shooting suspect

Officers with the Vicksburg Police Department arrested a man Saturday for shooting into an occupied vehicle.

At 4:33 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the area of Cedar School near Warrenton Lane in reference to a shooting. The victim said Xavier Allen fired shots at him, causing damage to his 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis.

Officers stopped Allen’s vehicle and saw a rifle on the front passenger seat and a spent shell casing on the back seat. They arrested Allen for shooting into an occupied vehicle.

He appeared before Judge Penny Lawson in Vicksburg Municipal Court Monday, Aug. 17, where she bound him over to the Warren County grand jury on a $20,000 bond.

Tallulah homicide suspect in custody

The Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation into a Sunday afternoon homicide.

Deputies responded to a shooting at the Wyche Apartments at 218 Thomas St. in Tallulah, Louisiana, just after 2 p.m. Sunday, according to Public Information Officer Deputy Brandon Wilcher. One man was transported to the Madison Parish Hospital emergency room suffering from a gunshot wound. The man later died of his injuries.

Deputies arrested Eddie Lee Jr., 21, of Texas City, Texas, at around 10 p.m., charging him with second degree murder. He has been denied bond. Authorities are withholding the victim’s identity pending notification of family.

Blackburn Motors hit by car thieves

Blackburn Motors, 2135 North Frontage Road, was the scene of a business burglary and auto theft Monday around 7 a.m.

Vicksburg police have issued a regional be-on-the-lookout alert for a 2020 black Dodge Challenger that was driven off the showroom floor through a door. Witnesses reported that the vehicle fled eastbound on Interstate 20. It was later reported that the vehicle was spotted near Flowers.

A 2020 blue Dodge Ram pickup truck and a gray 2011 Dodge Charger were also stolen.

VPD responds to shootings and a burglary overnight

Accidental Shooting on Manship Street

Shortly after 8:00pm on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020, officers were dispatched to a residence on Manship Street in reference to a shooting.

When they arrived, they found a 16-year-old male had received a gunshot wound to his chest.  The victim was transported to the university of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment. At last report the victim is in critical but stable condition.

The preliminary investigation has determined that the shooting was accidental, based on eyewitness accounts. 

Shooting Victim Shows up at River Region

In an unrelated incident, a few minutes before 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2020, a 29-year-old male entered the Emergency Room at Merit Health River Region for treatment.  He had received a gunshot wound to his left buttock.  

According to the victim, he had been walking west on Speed Street from Halls Ferry Road when he was injured.  No additional information is available.

Mall Burglary Suspect Apprehended at Scene

Around 4:00 a.m., Sunday, October 11, 2020, officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress at Jordan’s in the Vicksburg Mall, 3505 Pemberton Square Boulevard.  When they arrived, the officers found an open door and, when they entered the building, discovered Felix Williams, 30, of Vicksburg inside pushing a trash cart loaded with a large quantity of clothing from the store. The value of the stolen merchandise is $25,967.83.  Williams was arrested on one count of Business Burglary.
