Vicksburg PD have two juveniles in custody for a string of auto burglaries

The Vicksburg Police Department have two juveniles in custody in reference to the string of auto burglaries that occurred at Margaritaville Hotel and in the Washington Street area on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020. One stolen firearm has been recovered.

The auto burglaries reported Sunday include:

  • a call at 2:46 p.m. in the parking lot next to the Cottonwood restaurant, where the complainant stated that someone broke into her 2012 Toyota Camry and stole $50.
  • Also, at 2:46 p.m., officers responded to The Daiquiri Hub, 1446 Washington St., where the complainant stated that someone broke into her 2017 Chevrolet Malibu.
  • And, at 3:49 p.m., officers responded to Margaritaville, 1310 Mulberry St., where the complainant stated that a group of juveniles came inside Margaritaville and stole cereal, candy, potato chips, Carmex and juice. They then broke into her 2018 Toyota Corolla and stole a .380 caliber handgun.

In addition, on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 4:38 p.m., officers responded to Margaritaville in reference to an auto burglary. The victim reported someone smashed his driver’s side window and stole $4 cash and an Adidas gym bag from the back seat.

This investigation is on-going and further updates will be made when available.

The Vicksburg Police Department also responded to the following incidents from Friday, Jan. 10 through Sunday, Jan 12, 2020.

On Sunday, Jan. 12, at 7:59 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of Beresford Street for a report of shooting into an occupied dwelling.  When they arrived, the officers found numerous shell casings in the street and multiple holes in the front of a house.

On Sunday, Jan. 12, at 5:07 p.m., officers responded to 1 City Waterfront in reference to a stolen vehicle. The victim stated someone stole his 2010 Toyota Tundra.

Officers responded to two calls of residential burglaries.

  • On Friday, Jan. 10, at 3:18 p.m. officers responded to the 1100 block of First East Street where the resident stated that someone broke into his home and stole a washer and dryer, and a barbecue grill.
  • On Sunday, Jan. 12, at 9:22 a.m. officers responded to the 1100 block of Avenue C where the complainant stated that someone broke into his home and stole a DVD player, a VCR, VCR tapes, two heaters, two TVs and a portable CD player.

Officers responded to two calls of shots fired. Officers did not find any evidence of suspicious activity or shots fired in either case. The first call was Saturday, Jan. 11, at 8:09 p.m. in the area of Drummond and Realty streets. The second call was Sunday, Jan. 12, at 1:56 a.m., in the 3500 block of South Frontage Road.

BREAKING: One person shot in Kings community

Vicksburg Police and other first responders are on the scene of a shooting where a 19-year old male has been apparently been shot.

A call of shots fired on North Washington Street in the Kings community in Vicksburg came in at about 4:45 p.m. on Friday.

One person, a 19-year-old male, has apparently been shot in the buttocks. The wound is not life-threatening.

Police are searching for the shooter and have the area cordoned off. Please avoid the area if possible.

Vicksburg PD brings four individuals to court for initial appearances Friday

The Vicksburg Police Department brought four individuals into Vicksburg Municipal Court on Friday on charges ranging from possession of controlled substances to the theft of a firearm.

Judge Angela Carpenter presided over the initial court appearances and set bonds in each of the cases.

William Mayberry, 43, of Vicksburg, was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 15 at his residence by officers of the Vicksburg Police Department Narcotics Enforcement Team. He was charged with one count of possession of methamphetamine, one count of possession of heroin, and one count of sale of methamphetamine. Carpenter bound Mayberry over to the Warren County Grand Jury on a $75,000.00 bond.

Jacorvin Taylor, 29, of Shreveport, La., was arrested for felony shoplifting on Thursday, Jan. 16. His arrest is the result of an investigation into the theft of over $9,000 of merchandise from Dillard’s which occurred on Jan. 15, 2019. Carpenter bound Taylor over to the Warren County Grand Jury on a $30,000.00 bond.

Walter Lee Hardy, 19, of Vicksburg, was taken into custody on Thursday, Jan. 16, charged with one count of possession of a stolen firearm. Carpenter bound Hardy over to the Warren County Grand Jury on a $2,500 bond.

Joshua Moore, 28, of Vicksburg, turned himself in on a warrant for possession of methamphetamine on Friday, Jan. 17. Carpenter bound Moore over to the Warren County Grand Jury on a $5,000 bond.

Officers with the Vicksburg Police Department responded to the following incidents on Thursday, Jan. 16:

Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Churchill Drive at 8:30 p.m. in reference to a residential burglary. The resident stated a white gold seven-cluster ring, an Echo Dot smart speaker and a Michael Kors purse were missing.

At 10:58 p.m., officers responded to the 1300 block of Mundy Street in reference to shots fired. They found no evidence of shots being fired.

One Covington County Jail escapee captured; two still at large

Officers have captured one of three inmates who escaped from the Covington County Jail through a skylight on Wednesday.

Around 10 a.m. Friday, the Covington County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook that Dillon Parr was arrested in the Hot Coffee, Miss., area “just moments ago.”

A second escapee, Alexander Knight, was spotted Thursday around 5 p.m., “possibly heading toward Seminary,” another Facebook post stated. Knight was reportedly wearing a red plaid shirt with gray hoodie and khaki pants.

Christopher Love, the third escapee, also remains at large.

Authorities do not believe Knight and Love are armed or dangerous.
