Vicksburg man arrested for two thefts

The Vicksburg Police Department arrested a man early Friday morning for two thefts reported Wednesday.

Officers arrested David Lee Sanders, 38, of Vicksburg at 4:58 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Indiana Avenue and South Frontage Road. Sanders was wanted in connection to two thefts reported Wednesday: a generator from a pickup truck at the Econo Lodge, 3959 East Clay St., and a vehicle engine from Hillcrest Conoco, 3886 U.S. Highway 61 South.

Sanders was charged with two counts of grand larceny and appeared before Judge Penny Lawson in Vicksburg Municipal Court later Friday. Lawson set a $5,000 bond for each charge and bound him over to the Warren County grand jury.

Louisiana Police Officer Marshall Waters dies of injuries received in the line of duty

Mangham Louisiana Police Officer Marshall Waters was wounded during a traffic stop on the afternoon of Oct. 17. He was airlifted to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana, where he underwent surgery to attempt to repair his femoral artery. He has undergone three additional surgical procedures since that day.

Waters died as a result of his injuries early Thursday morning. He was 49.

In addition to working as a part-time police officer, Waters worked full-time as an emergency medical technician for the North Louisiana Ambulance Service and was assigned to their Rayville station.

Waters’ alleged assailant, Hermandus Dashanski Semien, 27, was taken into custody the day of the shooting in Franklin Parish. Semien is a suspect in the robbery of the Yancey Pharmacy in Rayville that took place the day of the shooting. The vehicle he was driving had also been reported as stolen.

Waters had stopped Semien near the Richland/Franklin Parish line after an advisory had been issued about the pharmacy robbery. Semien is alleged to have shot Waters as he was exiting his patrol vehicle, striking him in the abdomen below his protective vest.

Funeral arrangements for Officer Waters are pending at this time.

This case is under investigation by the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana State Police.

Police report two auto burglaries and a theft

The Vicksburg Police Department reported the following incidents for Tuesday, Nov. 3, and Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Ameristar Casino, 4116 Washington St., was the site of an auto burglary Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 10:03 p.m. The victim reported someone stole a debit card, a Mississippi driver’s license and a propane torch out of his 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Another auto burglary was reported Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Econo Lodge, 3955 East Clay St. at 6:06 a.m. The complainant stated someone took a Denyo Multiquip generator valued at $2,400.00 out of the bed his work truck.

The Hillcrest Conoco, 3886 U.S. Highway 61 South, was the site of a theft Wednesday. At 9:50 a.m., police officers responded to the gas station where the victim said someone had stolen a 5.3-liter Chevrolet engine valued at $2,500 from the premises.

Two arrested on warrants after brief chase

Vicksburg police officers pulled over Taylor Marie Shiers, 21, and William David Collins, 20, for a traffic stop in front of McCoy’s on Clay Street just before 3 p.m. Tuesday.

As the vehicle came to a stop in the McCoy’s parking lot, Shiers jumped out and attempted to run from law enforcement. Donnie Heggins with the Vicksburg Police Department stopped her in a lot across the street.

Both individuals were taken into custody on outstanding warrants.
