City of Vicksburg Pool Director Sylvia Gurtkowski says that the pool will open in June 7 with some stringent guidelines. The Mayor and Aldermen acted on Gurtkowski’s recommendations in a board meeting Monday morning.

“It’s no secret this has been a very strange year. This pandemic has affected everything and everyone.  City Pool and our staff are no exception,” Gurtkowski said. “The good news is that we WILL be open to the public this summer! However, for the safety of our patrons and our staff we have to limit the number of hours per swim session and limit the number of patrons per time slot.”

Recreation Swim Times: Mon, Fri, Sat.  There will be two 2-hour sessions on each of these days: 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. and 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. Currently, there will be a limit of 35 patrons allowed for each session.  Due to a tremendous shortage of lifeguards, the deep end will be closed.  Only the shallow end of the large pool and the baby pool will be open for swimming.

Tuesdays and Thursdays will be reserved for the area swim team practices.

Wednesdays are designated as childcare center days.  The city pool will take reservations for one center in the 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. time block and one group for the 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. time frame.  Again, no more than 35 patrons will be allowed per visit and childcare centers must reserve their swim time.

Lap swimming: Daily 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Early-bird Lap Swimming: Wed. 6:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.

The City Pool will be closed on Sundays.

To help with this inconvenience, for this year only, the daily fees will be $2 for all ages.  Individual passes will be $40 and Family Passes will be $60.

“We want everyone to have fun, but as always, patron and staff safety are the top priority. We have faith that next year we will truly be back to normal and City Pool will return to a regular schedule, including swim lessons,” Gurtkowski said. “Thank you all so much for your patience as we chart this new path.”
