Effective immediately, the City of Vicksburg Animal Shelter will be open by appointment only.

To adopt an animal, you must be serious about the adoption, then send an email and make an appointment, said Animal Control Director Kasey Lindsey. The email address is animalshelter@vicksburg.org. Adoptions will be done on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to coincide when a Vicksburg Police officer can be available to collect the adoption fees.

As always, the animals at the shelter will be cared for, but the shelter cannot take any additional animals at this time. The Shelter will be cleaned, and all animals will be fed by employees twice a day, seven days a week. Dead animals will still be removed from roadways as usual, along with removing injured animals around the city.

To report a dead or injured animal, call the city action line during normal business hours at 601-636-3411. After hours and for aggressive animals call Vicksburg Warren E-911 on their non-emergency number at 601-631-8800. A police officer will be dispatched, and they will notify animal control.

The Shelter will still be working with rescue agencies and groups during this process. Email the shelter at animalshelter@vicksburg.org, or visit their Facebook page for more information.
