Two auto burglaries and two shootings reported this weekend in Vicksburg

This past weekend, officers with the Vicksburg Police Department responded to two auto burglaries Friday and two shootings Sunday.

Auto burglaries

On Friday, Sept. 4, 11:33 a.m. officers responded 2080 South Frontage Road where the victim stated someone stole a Coach purse that contained $500 from a 2018 Nissan Rouge.

At 3:55 p.m. Friday, officers responded to Vicksburg Junior High School, 1533 Rosa A Temple Drive, where the victim said someone went into a 2015 Toyota Avalon and stole a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver. The vehicle had been left unlocked.

Shootings

On Sunday, Sept. 6, at 1:34 a.m. officers responded to a report of a shooting into an occupied vehicle that occurred on Highway 61 South near Cain Ridge Road. The vehicle, a 2012 Toyota Corolla, was struck once in the passenger’s side rear panel. Neither of the car’s occupants were injured.

At 1:30 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to an address in the 200 block of Demby Drive in reference to a shooting into an occupied residence. The resident reported someone shot into one of the home’s bedroom windows.

Felon arrested for firearm possession after brief chase

A Vicksburg police officer arrested Marquette McCroy, 38, of Vicksburg after a brief chase Sunday.

McCroy failed to stop the vehicle he was driving and led the officer on a brief chase. After he stopped, the officer found that he was in possession of a handgun. He arrested McCroy shortly after midnight Sunday and charged him with possession of a firearm by a felon.

McCroy appeared before Judge Penny Lawson in Vicksburg Municipal Court Sunday, where she gave him a $75,000 bond and bound him over to the Warren County grand jury.

Two Vicksburg men arrested for possession of a stolen handgun

Vicksburg police officers made two arrests for a stolen handgun during a routine traffic stop Friday.

At 9:44 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, officers stopped a silver 2007 Nissan Altima on Indiana Avenue for driving without headlights. When an officer approached, he saw a MAC-11 handgun and an AK-47 rifle on the rear floorboard. The MAC-11 had been reported stolen and both men in the vehicle were arrested for possession of a stolen firearm.

Cordell Flowers, 20, and Tyrese Craft, 20, both of Vicksburg, appeared before Judge Penny Lawson in Vicksburg Municipal Court Saturday, Oct. 10. Both received $15,000 bonds and were bound over to the Warren County grand jury.

Tallulah homicide suspect in custody

The Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation into a Sunday afternoon homicide.

Deputies responded to a shooting at the Wyche Apartments at 218 Thomas St. in Tallulah, Louisiana, just after 2 p.m. Sunday, according to Public Information Officer Deputy Brandon Wilcher. One man was transported to the Madison Parish Hospital emergency room suffering from a gunshot wound. The man later died of his injuries.

Deputies arrested Eddie Lee Jr., 21, of Texas City, Texas, at around 10 p.m., charging him with second degree murder. He has been denied bond. Authorities are withholding the victim’s identity pending notification of family.
