An exchange of gunfire was reported in the area of Washington and Mattingly Streets Thursday afternoon.
A call to 911 was received with a woman reportedly telling the operator, “They’re shooting! They’re shooting!” Multiple units with the Vicksburg Police Department responded to the area.
According to witnesses on the scene, two individuals were on Washington Street and began to run towards Mattingly while opening fire. At least one individual was reported to have ran from the Quick Mart area at the intersection. Initial reports indicate that at least four other individuals responded in kind from the other end of Mattingly.
The situation was described as “unloading gunfire”, according to witnesses.
At least 31 markers have been placed at bullet casings at the scene, mostly lying on the east side of the street.
No one was reported as injured during the gunfire exchange. Police are monitoring the hospitals for any reports of gunshot injuries. So far only one vehicle has been reported to have been damaged.
