A section of U.S. Highway 80 near Dave’s Custom Meats was undermined by yesterday’s heavy rainfall.

Approximately 100 feet of roadway has collapsed, and a section of it has washed away.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation has closed the road from Mt. Alban Road to Amber Leaf Drive. The MDOT advisory indicates the section will be closed until at least Feb. 14; however, based on the amount of damage, it will be much longer for the road to be restored.

Over 4 inches of rain was recorded in the Vicksburg area by the National Weather Service on Monday. The heavy rain and thunderstorms caused numerous trees to fall, and lightning strikes caused many small outside fires.
