Pets’ Krewe of Barkus leads the way in Vicksburg’s Mardi Gras Parade

Let the good times roll with Vicksburg’s first-ever Mardi Gras pet parade.

Downtown Vicksburg Main Street and Bark Avenue Hotel and Spa are sponsoring a pet parade to kick off the people parade on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The Krewe of Barkus will kick off the 19th Annual Mardi Gras Parade in downtown Vicksburg at 3:45 p.m. starting at Veto and Washington streets. The after-party will start immediately following the pet parade at Washington Street Park.

The people parade begins at 4 p.m.

Entry fee for one dog and its human is $10, and each entry will receive a $10 discount at Bark Avenue.

Register in advance by Feb. 17 (see the form below), or on the day of the parade stating at 2:30 p.m. Lineup is at 3:15 p.m.

Wagons and strollers are welcome, but no motorized vehicles will be allowed for pets.

The governor will once again be addressing the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak.

Mississippi governor to answer questions about COVID-19 on Facebook

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves will answer questions about the COVID-19 novel coronavirus via a live Facebook event on Tuesday.

The governor hopes to address questions about the state’s response at 3 p.m. at https://www.facebook.com/tatereeves/.

Before the event, go to Reeves’ Facebook page to add your questions to the post announcing the event.

The state has 12 cases of the virus according to the last update from the Mississippi State Department of Health on Monday.

March 16 SKYWARN Training Course canceled

Original Story

The Vicksburg Amateur Radio Club and the Warren County Emergency Management Agency will host a SKYWARN Training Course on March 16.

The course will be presented by Science and Operations Officer Chad Entremont and Senior Meteorologist Heather Stanley of the National Weather Service in Jackson. The subject matter will focus on tornado weather experienced in Mississippi.

SKYWARN is a volunteer program with between 350,000 and 400,000 trained severe weather spotters. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service.

The course is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 16, at Goldie’s Trail BBQ, 2430 South Frontage Road. Supper can be ordered from the menu at 5:30 p.m. if attendees wish to eat before the presentation.

There is no charge for the course, but reservations are needed to accommodate the projected attendance. Please call Malcolm Keown at 601-636-0827 to reserve your spot.
