Over 20,000 Mississippi students are in quarantine

Over 20,000 Mississippi students are in quarantine across the state of Mississippi.

The total represents reported positive and quarantined students as of August 17, at 10 a.m. In total, 948 teachers and staff and 4,521 students tested positive for COVID-19 during the week of August 9 to August 13.

Since the beginning of August, 1,496 teachers and staff have contracted the virus. As of last week, 1,463 teachers and staff members were in quarantine, along with 20,334 students.

Since the beginning of August, 5,933 students across the state have tested positive for the virus.

According to the report released by the MSDH, Warren County has experienced positive COVID cases at the following schools:

  • Academy of Innovation
  • Beechwood Elementary
  • Bovina Elementary
  • Dana Road Elementary
  • Redwood Elementary
  • River City Early College
  • South Park Elementary
  • Vicksburg Catholic School
  • Vicksburg High School
  • Vicksburg Intermediate School
  • Vicksburg Junior High School
  • Warren Central High School
  • Warren Central Intermediate
  • Warren Central Junior High School

Only Sherman Avenue Elementary and Warrenton Elementary reported no positives or quarantined staff and students. Bowmar, at the time of this report, had only 3 students in quarantine. Porters Chapel was not listed on the report.

The exact numbers are going to be hard to track because the State wants to protect the identity of those impacted by suppressing case numbers between 1-5 students or staff.

To date, Warren County has 5,484 total cases and 130 deaths attributed to the virus.
