Norman Price signs with the Toronto Argonauts

Former Vicksburg High School standout football player Norman Price II has signed to play in the Canadian Football League with the Toronto Argonauts.

Price signed with the Argonauts on March 2. He will be playing in the CFL for the second time in his career after playing for the Calgary Stampeders in 2019.

Since the 2016 NFL Draft, Price has played for multiple NFL teams, including the San Francisco 49ers, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and twice for the Carolina Panthers before being placed on injury reserved in 2019.

Before starting his professional football career, Price played football for the University of Southern Mississippi in 2014 and 2015, and he was the lead blocker for the Golden Eagles. In 2015 he helped USM to a 9-5 record and blocked for two 1,000 yard rushers.

Price is a 2012 graduate of Vicksburg High School where he played football and basketball.

VHS freshman boys won 62-32, while the freshman girls took a tough 51-42 loss

The Vicksburg High School freshman boys basketball team defeated Northwest Rankin 62-32 Thursday night, and the VHS girls freshman team took a tough 51-42 loss to the Cougars.

Kealon Bass led the way for the boy’s victory with 17 points on the night as he opened the game with a big three pointer. Davion Williams also stepped up big for the Gators and finished with 10 points. Chris Green added 8 points to help the Gators to a 7-0 record under head coach Julius Williams.

Vicksburg led the game early with 14 points in the first quarter before the Cougars got their first points on the board.

In the VHS freshman girls game, the Missy Gators suffered a tough 51-42 loss to the Cougars Thursday night as multiple fouls prevented them from winning.

Rodrianna Hall led the Gators with 15 points and continued to make big plays for the Gators. One of the team’s lead scorers, eighth grader Cynia Johnson, finished the game with 12 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter.

The game stayed close throughout the night. At halftime the two teams were tied at 21. The Gators took the lead again in the second half but the Cougars got away with the win after fouls benched some key Gators.

Griffin selected to play in Mississippi All Star Game

Warren Central High School soccer player Joshua Griffin has been selected to play in the Mississippi All Star Game.

Griffin will play for the North team in February 2021, competing with the South team.

Griffin is a five-year starter for the Vikings soccer team and all of his hard work over the years is now being noticed. He is also a member of the Vikings football team that will play Clinton tonight in the second round of the playoffs.

The All Star Game is scheduled for Brandon High School in February 2021 where Griffin will show off his skills.

Layla Carter scores 20 points in the Gators win over No. 8 Raymond

The Vicksburg High School girls basketball team shocked No. 8 ranked Raymond High School with a close 53-51 win.

VHS was led by sophomore Layla Carter who scored 20 points on the night which helped result in the big win.

Mississippi Play Sports posted a tweet Friday about the how great Carter and the Gators did.

The Gators travel to play Northwest Rankin Tuesday, Dec. 1, after the Thanksgiving break.
