The Vicksburg Warren County School District reports that it had no new COVID-19 cases in the schools for the week of Aug. 31 to Sept. 4.
Since school opened in the district Aug. 17, five COVID-19 cases have been reported, three among teachers and staff and two among students. In addition, one teacher and one student were quarantined due to possible exposure.
Many schools were not reporting their COVID-19 statistics to the Mississippi State Department of Health as of the latest report; however, 861 schools in 80 counties reported a total of 59 outbreaks, defined as three or more people diagnosed with COVID-19 in the same group within a 14-day period.
Mississippi has more than 1,100 public schools and more than 2,000 private schools across the state.
Statewide in Mississippi among the schools that have reported, 604 teachers and staff and 1,094 students have tested positive for the virus as of Sept. 4, with more than 4,500 teachers and students quarantined.
