Mississippi River Zone Fire Management has a position available for a GS 6/7 Fire Forestry Technician duty stationed in Tupelo, MS at the Natchez Trace Parkway.

The chosen applicant will “provide leadership and oversight of wildland fire suppression/management/control work as a seasoned, experienced firefighter on an engine, prescribed fire, or wildland fire module, or on a handcrew,” according to the listing.
This Fire Management Zone encompasses much of Kentucky and Tennessee, all of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the western portion of the Florida panhandle. The ecological systems are varied, stretching from the Cumberland Plateau to the Gulf Coastal Plain with oak and hickory forests, prairies and glades, pitcher plant bogs, longleaf pine forests, and everything in between. This position serves as an integral part of a fire management team and has the responsibility to implement fire suppression, pre-suppression and fuels reduction projects within the National Parks across the zone.
