Mississippi Highway Patrol seizes 13.6 kilograms of cocaine on I-55

A multi-agency effort led to the discovery of 13.6 grams of cocaine and the arrest of driver. (Mississippi Highway Patrol)

Troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol Traveling Criminal Apprehension Program (TCAP) division, along with the Mississippi Department of Transportation Office of Law Enforcement seized an 18-wheeler and a large amount of cocaine Wednesday.

The traffic stop happened on Interstate 55, where officers discovered 13.6 kilograms of cocaine, valued at $586,000, being transported. The 18-wheeler that was stopped has also been seized as a result.

The driver was taken into custody and has been charged with aggravated trafficking of a scheduled 2 controlled substance. The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics took possession of the drugs and the 18-wheeler.

All offices involved continue to cooperate in the investigation into this case and is testimony to the cooperation of multiple agencies to reduce the transportation of narcotics.
