Military Park & Shape Up Vicksburg celebrate Black History Month




th, in partnership with Shape Up Vicksburg, and in conjunction with First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move Outside” initiative, Vicksburg National Military Park is hosting a Black History Month walk in the park and the adjacent historic Beulah Cemetery. Programs on the United States Colored Troops and African-Americans in the Civil War will be given near the cemetery by Mr. James McNair and Dr. David Slay. Walkers should meet at the park’s Visitor Center. The walk and programs are expected to finish by 10:00am. For further details please see Shape Up Vicksburg’s website at Admission for this event is free for those who park at the Hampton Inn and walk into the park. You can view a map of the 2.75 mile course at the link above. After the walking event, head to the Warren County-Vicksburg Public Library Auditorium.  The First Annual  African-American History Quiz Bowl takes place beginning at 10 a.m.]]]]> ]]>
