Local Fox news anchor loses his battle with cancer

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Mike Sands has ended his fight with cancer. Mike died Saturday evening, surrounded by family and friends.

As many of you know, for the past several years Mike has been battling, a soft tissue cancer. The cancer initially started in his calf and eventually begin to spread. Earlier this year, Mike made the decision to return home to Pennsylvania so he could continue to battle his disease with his family by his side.

The #teamsands movement began, with so many of you cheering him on and supporting him in his battle.

His family, friends, and loved ones are in our hearts and prayers.

Funeral arrangements are not yet set.

Thanksgiving homicide victim identified

Shots rang out over Vicksburg Thursday night, killing one man and injuring at least two others.

Deputy Coroner Kelda Bailess has identified the deceased victim as Joshua Coffee, 28, of Demby Street in Vicksburg.

Vicksburg Police Chief Milton Moore identified the two injured men as Michael Jones, 29, and Kameron Reed, 27.

The shooting is under investigation by the Vicksburg Police, however according to Chief Moore, suspects have not yet been identified.

Thanksgiving ends in tragedy: three shot, one dead

Thanksgiving celebrations have taken a tragic turn in Vicksburg and Warren County.

Just before 8 p.m. Thursday, Vicksburg police responded to a report of shots fired in the 1200 block of Harrison Street.

Responders arrived to discover a male in a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of responding medics, the victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the emergency room.

Initial reports indicate that two other individuals were shot in the incident, with one suffering a gunshot wound to the back and being transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. His condition and the condition of the third victim is unknown at this time.

Around 8:30 p.m., Warren County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Ironwood Drive, where a victim was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm.

Officials are working to determine if the two incidents are related. Suspects remain at large.

Suspect in custody for fatal Madison Parish shooting

A suspect is in custody following a fatal shooting in Madison Parish, Louisiana, Wednesday evening.

At around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Madison Parish deputies were dispatched to the area of North Walnut Street in Tallulah. When they arrived, deputies found a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Deputy Brandon Wilcher, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.

The Northeast Louisiana Ambulance Service transported the man to the Madison Parish Hospital Emergency Room where he died of his injuries. The victim’s name is being withheld while officials notify the family.

The suspect, Kevonta D. Everett, 23, had fled the scene, but investigators found he was in Delhi, Louisiana. Madison Parish deputies along with Delhi police took Everett into custody and transported him to the Madison Parish Jail. He is charged with second degree murder, Wilcher said, adding that while the investigation continues, he does not expect additional arrests.
