Lady Flashes defeat Cathedral 33-24

The St. Aloysius High School girls basketball team defeated Cathedral High School Friday in a 33-24 victory.

Elizabeth Theriot led the Lady Flashes in points, finishing the night with 14. She was a key player in the Flashes’ big win over their rivals, the Cathedral Green Wave.

Taylor Chewning also put up big numbers in the win last night. She scored 13 points and got multiple assists from Emily Cook.

Cook added 2 points of her own along with three assists in the win.

The Lady Flashes now have a 3-2 record. They are preparing to play Discovery Christian Thursday, Dec. 3.

Magee hit the game winning shot as Flashes beat Cathedral 50-49

St. Aloysius High School basketball player Carter Magee hit a game winning 3-pointer to seal the Flashes’ victory over Cathedral High School Friday night.

Trailing 47-49 before Carter’s big shot, the Flashes went on to win the game 50-49.

Carter finished the night with 12 points. He had plenty of help from his fellow teammates in the team’s win. Isaiah Thomas was the Flashes’ lead scorer with 18 points and Padre Gray Jr. added 11 for the Flashes.

The Flashes go into the Thanksgiving break with a big win. They play Discovery Christian Thursday, Dec. 3.

YMCA extents basketball registration through Nov. 30

The Vicksburg YMCA has extended girls and boys basketball registration through Nov. 30.

YMCA basketball will consist of three leagues, each with girls and boys teams: 7 year olds, 8 and 9 year olds, and the senior prep league of 10 through 12 year olds.

Boys aged 8 through 12 will need to try out before being placed on a team.

Tryouts for the 8 and 9-year-olds boys league will held Nov. 30 at the YMCA at 5:30 p.m. To be eligible, a participant’s eighth birthday must have been before Sept. 1, 2020.

Tryouts for senior prep 10, 11 and 12-year-old boys are scheduled for Dec. 1 at the YMCA. Children in the senior prep league can only participate if their 10th birthday was before Sept. 1.

For more information or to register your child to participate, call 601-638-1071 or go to the front desk at the YMCA. Registration is $60 for YMCA members and $70 for non members.

Vicksburg High freshman Hall scored 13 points Thursday

Vicksburg High freshman basketball player Rodrianna Hall led the team in points Thursday in the Gators 51-42 loss to Northwest Rankin.

Hall scored 13 points in the game and helped the Gators take the lead over the Cougars several times in the hard-fought match. She also played good defense Thursday when she was able to gain multiple steals.

Hall had plenty of help Thursday from her teammates, especially Cynia Johnson who scored 12 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter.

The team now has a 5-2 record. Hall and the Gators are coached by Deatra Robinson-Cable.
