Eighth grade Vicksburg Junior High School student Cynia Johnson led the ninth-grade team in points Wednesday in a 39-37 win over Ridgeland.
Johnson scored 17 points in the victory, helping her team reach the semifinals games. She has become one of the lead scorers on the team while playing under head coach Deatra Robinson-Cable.
Although Johnson is in eighth grade, she was moved up to the ninth grade team due to her ability to perform on a higher level. She also scored 4 points in the VHS varsity game Friday against Ridgeland.
With Johnson’s ninth grade season over, she will be playing on the varsity team for the remainder of the season.
