Jake Coffie – Career law enforcement officer passes away

Former Mississippi State Trooper Sgt. Jake Coffie passed away on April 30 at a Jackson Hospital at the age of 60.

Coffie graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1979. He began his law enforcement career with the Vicksburg Police Department, where he served for just over two years. He transitioned to the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol where he served in various capacities over the next 24.5 years and was assigned to the Motor Carrier Division as a Sergeant at the time of his retirement. Coffie would go on to serve as Under Sheriff in Claiborne County for two years.

Warren County Judge Marcie Southerland said “I am so sorry. He was a fine person and dedicated to serving the public and always with utmost respect for others. May Jake Rest In Peace.”

Funeral services will be held at the Vicksburg City Auditorium at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitations will be on Friday at the Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m.  The family will be present from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m.
