Jacqueline Gaines Jones, 1933 – 2020

Jacqueline Gaines Jones, 87, of Vicksburg, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at 8:48 p.m.

She lived in Vicksburg all of her life. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She was raised in Christ Episcopal Church and is now a member of Hawkins United Methodist Church.

Born in Memphis, adopted at birth, Jackie moved to Vicksburg at a young age with her family. At 19-years-old, Jackie and her mother, opened Jac’s Dress Shop located on Washington Street and her parents owned Gaines Grocery on Openwood St. in Downtown Vicksburg. Jackie then met her loving husband Phil and married only three months later, loving each other for 64 years. They lived a wonderful life traveling and raising three beautiful children. Jackie started every day with a pot of coffee and a walk. She had a deep love for animals. She loved to dance, she loved music, and she loved telling stories about growing up downtown Vicksburg and what life was like in a river town in the 1950s. She was full of life and always put family first.

She is proceeded in death by her husband, Philip H. Jones Sr.; father, William Lawrence Gaines, and mother, Sara Leona Gaines; one brother, S. H. “Hooter” Brownley.

She is survived by her three loving children; son, Philip “Sonny” (Teresa) Jones Jr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Carmen Lynn (Kenny) Robinson and Anissa Ann (Kimberley) Jones; sister, Mae Jeanette (Eugene) Spencer; two brothers, Bob (Ginny) Sewell and Bruce “Bud” (Dottie) Sewell; four grandchildren, Elena (Jeff) Rodriguze, Haley (Michael) Murphy, Julianna (Dustin) Smith and Mattie Jones; and four great-grandchildren, Lynley James and Jack Ellis Murphy, and James Michael and Eloise McKenzie Rodriguze.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Heritage House Assistant Living. They had outstanding patience and love for our mother and grandmother during her time there.

Floyd Henry Coghlan Sr., ‘Son,’ 1927 – 2020

Mr. Floyd Henry Coghlan Sr., “Son,” 93, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in his home, surrounded by family, Friday, Nov. 27, 2020. Born Aug. 18, 1927, Son was one of 8 children to Ethel Estelle Screws and Edgar Floyd Coghlan of Spanish Fort, Mississippi, (Holly Bluff) where Son was raised and spent the majority of his life as a Delta farmer (Coghlan & Sons Farm). Prior to farming, Son also worked in oil fields in Texas and Mississippi and was employed at Mississippi Chemical in Yazoo City.

While working oil fields in Laurel, Mississippi, Son met his loving wife, Ozzie Coghlan (married 1956), with whom he loved and raised five children, later blessed with 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. A Korean War Veteran, Son served his country proudly in the U.S. Army.

Known affectionately by his family as “Pawpaw,” Son was an avid fishermen and hunter, gardener and even mud-truck racer. He enjoyed spending time with his family and employees on the farm and sharing his love of the great outdoors.

Son was preceded in death by his daughter Deborah Carter and grandson Dudley Carter; brother Jean Coghlan; sisters Clara Mae Screws, Louise Templeton, Ethel Cliburn and Geneva Millwood.

Son is survived by his wife Ozzie (Lampkin) Coghlan; children Charles Graham (Kathy), Sandra Coghlan Coleman, Henry Coghlan (Yolanda), Ike Coghlan (Angie); grandchildren  Jeanna Wood, Abby McPhail and Brelan Yelverton, Kallie Ketchum and Billy Carter, Jay Coleman and Deborah Luke, Navy Lt. Cmdr. Crystal Massey and Floyd Coghlan, Megan Coghlan, Blake Coghlan, Alex Madesclaire, Taylor Dean and Katie Dean; great grandchildren Hanna Cearnel, Thadius Cearnel, Tucker Wood, Mason Wood, Sarah Kate Mcphail, Brantley Yelverton and Turner Yelverton, Coleman Miller, Jodi Luke and Breanna Luke, John Hagen Ketchum, Carter Ketchum and Maizey Ketchum, Carson Massey, Carolina Massey and Caleb Massey, and Lawson Hogue; sisters Mary Dorris and Sylvia Coghlan. Son is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of family and friends.

Services are postponed until further notice due to COVID-19 precautions. The family is requesting donations in Son’s memory to Holly Bluff Baptist Church.

Nona Ford, 1937 – 2020

Mrs. Nona Ford passed away at Merit Health River Region in Vicksburg, Mississippi, on Nov. 30, 2020, at the age of 83.

Nona was born on Feb. 11, 1937. She was married to her late husband, William B. (Sonny) Ford, for 63 years. Nona and Sonny moved to Vicksburg in the 1950s. Nona was a loving wife and a supportive mother. She spent her younger life raising her children. Later in life, Nona took pleasure in enjoying her grandchildren and being outside. Nona had a deep love for the Lord.

Visitation for Nona will be Wednesday Dec. 2, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg. A memorial service will begin at noon. A graveside service will follow directly after the memorial service.

Jessie Jones, 1942 – 2020

Jessie Jones passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020. He was 78 years old.

Mr. Jones was born in Eupora, Mississippi. He was a welder at Bechtel Nuclear power plant. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence G. Jones and Lucie Dewberry Jones; siblings Betty Jean Kirksey, Curtis Jones, Louise Sanders, Shannon Jones, Daisy Miller, George Jones, David Jones and Shirley Holman.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Jones; four sons Jessie Jones, Jr., Greg Jones, Christopher Jones and Clarence Jones; two daughters Samantha Morgan and Lisa Jones; a sister Bonnie Fortner; and 11 grandchildren.

A graveside service will be Friday, Nov. 20, 2020, at noon in Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 20, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Glenwood Funeral Home.
