An inmate was stabbed to death at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman yesterday, according to Sunflower County Coroner Heather Burton.

Other inmates were also injured in the incident, WJTV reports, despite a statewide lockdown affecting state and private prisons in Mississippi.

The name of the inmate killed yesterday, a man, has not been released, and the Mississippi Department of Corrections says the situation is under control.

The lockdown, which generally involves severe limitations to inmates’ mobility including confining them to their cells, has been in effect since Monday, Dec. 30, after an inmate was killed and two others injured at the South Mississippi Correctional Institution on Sunday.

Yesterday, Dec. 31, Pelicia Hall, commissioner of MDOC, announced her resignation.
