When Hailey Henderson begins college in the fall, she’ll be taking with her more than just the standard laptop, comforter set, towels and clothes that all other students will be hauling to the dorms. She will also be taking determination and drive to succeed, her family’s unwavering support, a tremendous faith in God and 12 college hours already under her belt.
Hailey is the daughter of William and Sheila Henderson, and credits her parents for helping her graduate high school with an impressive 4.185 GPA and ranked 6th in her senior class.
Hailey was not only a successful student academically, she was also involved in many extracurricular activities, organizations and honors.
Hailey was a member of the Environmental Club and the Vicksburg High School Varsity Choir. She served as a Student Ambassador, Treasurer of Key Club and National Honor Society and was secretary of Mu Alpha Theta.
Hailey is active with Triumph Church, participating in service projects such as the “Triumph Kidz”. She also completed over 100 hours of community service projects through VHS Key Club and was also selected to the 2021 homecoming court.
These accomplishments were what led to Hailey being awarded numerous college scholarships. She will be using these when she begins at Hinds Community College in the fall.
Hailey will be majoring in education and plans to become a teacher. Hailey said she was most inspired by one of her teachers at VHS.
“Ms. Hodge is who inspired me to want to teach. She encouraged me so much and I’ll never forget one specific thing she said ‘Teachers are the building blocks of all careers’,” Hailey said.
After Hinds, Hailey plans to attend USM to finish her degree.
Although change and facing life’s unknowns can be scary, Hailey and her loved ones are looking forward to her future and have no doubts she will succeed.
This is because Hailey Henderson plans to continue living her life by a verse her mother told her to always remember, Phillipians 4:6, “Do not worry about anything, instead pray about everything.”
