– Gov. Haley Barbour, officials from Lockheed Martin and state and local officials gathered today at the South Pointe Business Park in Clinton to celebrate the grand opening of Lockheed Martin’s Mission Support Center. The company announced in April it would locate the operation in Clinton and create 350 new jobs in the greater Jackson area. The Clinton Mission Support Center establishes the company’s Gulf Coast Technology Hub and will provide diverse technology services for Lockheed Martin’s federal customers. “I appreciate Lockheed Martin’s continued investment in our state, confidence in our business climate and belief in our workforce,” Gov. Barbour said. “Lockheed Martin’s expansion in Clinton is great news for the Jackson area and the entire state of Mississippi.” As Lockheed Martin’s Gulf Coast Technology Hub, the Clinton location will work with the company’s other technology hubs located in Rockville, Md., and Altadena, Calif., to offer enhanced technology capabilities to the company’s customers. “Lockheed Martin is pleased to expand our presence in Mississippi, and we value the opportunity to contribute to the economic development of central Mississippi,” said Linda Gooden, executive vice president of Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems & Global Solutions business. “We truly appreciate the successful collaboration we have experienced working with federal, state and local officials to ensure we have the professional workforce and facility resources needed to open this world-class mission support operation here. We look forward to this continued partnership.” The Mississippi Development Authority provided assistance for the project through the Momentum Mississippi incentives program. “I’m delighted that Lockheed Martin is opening its new Mission Support Center in Clinton,” said Leland Speed, executive director of MDA. “Lockheed Martin has been a valued corporate citizen of Mississippi for a number of years, and we applaud the company’s decision to expand its presence in the state and create additional high-paying jobs for Jackson area residents.” Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs approximately 126,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation’s 2010 sales from continuing operations were $45.8 billion. To learn more about Lockheed Martin, please visit www.lockheedmartin.com.]]]]> ]]>

Police have arrested the father of the newborn taken from a Monroe, Louisiana, hospital last week.

Travis Hargrove, 35, has been charged with cruelty to a juvenile for taking his newborn son, Travis Hargrove Jr., from the St. Francis Medical Center just after 11:20 p.m. Oct. 22, the night of the baby’s birth. Police say the father hid the infant in a backpack, but the baby’s security bracelet alerted the hospital to his leaving the premises.

Court records reveal that the mother, who has not been named, tested positive for THC and amphetamines at the time of the infant’s birth, which could result in the child being taken from the parents by the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, KNOE reports.

The infant, who was found safe just a few hours after his father took him, needed to be monitored for possible withdrawal symptoms, according to hospital staff.
