Former WC player Chris Winston is an outstanding blocker for Hinds CC

Former Warren Central offensive lineman Chris Winston had an outstanding performance last week for Hinds Community College.

Starting at center for the Eagles, Winston’s blocking for the Eagles offense is credited for 487 total yards in the 56-21 win over Southwest Mississippi Community College. The offense consisted of 346 rushing yards and 141 passing yards.

Winston was the lead blocker in the game. He has become one of the most reliable players on the field for the Eagles this season just as he did for Warren Central last year.

Winston and Hinds CC will be back on the field Thursday to face East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi, at 6:30 p.m.

Vicksburg High defeats Warren Central 73-41

The Vicksburg High School Gators defeated crosstown rivals Warren Central Vikings in a 73-41 win Saturday.

Taylon Smith led the Gators in the victory scoring 24 points in the blowout win over the Vikings. He also played great defense as he helped his team to the win.

Sean Hardy also stepped up for VHS and managed to put up 14 points. He also had six rebounds Saturday.

Lacaris Johnson and Keshawn Brown were both critical players for Vicksburg in the match. Johnson had 8 points and Brown finished with 9.

Del’Javien Harried was the key play for the Warren Central Vikings, putting up 15 points in the game. Travis Smith and Wade Sims also played well as they each scored 10 points.

The Gators will be back at home Tuesday to face Yazoo City.

Three Vicksburg men made the All-MACCC team

Three Vicksburg men have been named to the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference All-State team for their successful football seasons.

Connor Smith, a former St. Aloysius player who now plays at Hinds Community College, went 5 of 8 on field goals and also converted 15 of 17 extra points.

Chris Winston, a former Warren Central offensive lineman started at center for the Hinds Eagles and helped the team to a 3-2 record with his great aggressive blocking.

Joe Johnson Jr., a former Vicksburg High School quarterback, went 29 of 49 in passing for Coahoma Community College and rushed for 210 yards. He led his team to a 3-2 record.

All three were notable players in their high school days, and they continue to advance their skills on the collegiate level.

Harvey scored 15 points to help the Vikings to a 46-18 win Thursday

Warren Central ninth grade girls basketball team defeated Terry Thursday night in a huge 46-18 win.

Zion Harvey led the Lady Vikings in points, finishing the match with 15. She was also responsible for playing great defense as she almost outscored the Terry Bulldogs by herself.

Calise Henyard came behind Harvey in points with 12, contributing to the ladies winning the the ball game. Jennifer Smith also added 7 points.

The entire Vikings team showed up to handle business last night, and the Bulldogs were unable to stop the powerful offense the Vikings had to offer.

The Lady Vikings are now 8-2 and will be back in action next Thursday against crosstown rivals Vikings High School.
