Former Warren Central High School defensive lineman Vertez Shorter is entering his sophomore year at Hinds Community College, and he’s preparing to fight for a starting spot with the Bulldogs.

Shorter had a successful senior season in 2018 for the Vikings when he racked up 72 tackles and four sacks. He has also helped the Vikings to the playoffs each year he played on the varsity squad from 2016 to 2018.

Vikings head coach Josh Morgan trusted Shorter to lead the defensive lineman.

Known for his ability to interrupt plays in the backfield, Shorter impressed Hinds CC enough to gain a scholarship in 2019 where he committed to play on the next level in February 2019.

In his 2019 freshman year at Hinds, Shorter was not a starter, but he received playing time to gain experience which puts him in a good position to start in the upcoming season.

Since the coronavirus outbreak, Shorter has continued to keep up with his workouts at home so that he will be prepared for the upcoming season, which will be his last at Hinds.
