Former VHS assistant coach Jimbo Nowell leads Heidelberg to a district championship

Former Vicksburg High assistant football coach Jimbo Nowell has clinched a district title as Heidelberg High School’s head coach.

Nowell, who is in his first season with the Oilers, led the team to a 55-7 win over Collins on Friday which helped them to remain undefeated in district play with an overall 5-3 record.

By leading Heidelberg to the Region 8-2A Championship, the school now has their first district title in 27 years.

Nowell was previously a defensive line coach for VHS in 2020 and head powerlifting coach when the Gator powerlifting team won the 5A State Championship in early 2021.

Heidelberg will host a playoff game against Philadelphia on Friday.
