Flowers wins Republican runoff
Brian Flowers won Tuesday’s Republican runoff in the 2nd Congressional District with 70% of the vote.
He received 3,747 votes to opponent Thomas Carey’s 1,607 votes.
Flowers will face Democratic incumbent Bennie Thompson in November’s general election.
Thompson is the longest-serving member of Mississippi’s congressional delegation and its only African American. He has held the seat in Congress since 1993, and he chairs the House Committee on Homeland Security.
