Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. is reaching out to President Donald Trump once again to solicit aid for Vicksburg.

In a letter dated April 28, Flaggs asked the president to include cities in federal COVID-19 relief “to cover budget shortfalls” and avoid furloughs and lay offs of public employees.

“As a governmental entity, our workforce is based on the needs of our community. Our citizens depend on a fully staffed ambulance service, fire department, police department, utility department and many of the services provided by city employees. The city and the citizens need these employees to continue working, yet the expected sales tax revenue and other expected revenue is likely to be diminished due to COVID-19 causing a budget shortfall.”
