Jackson City Hall and non-essential city offices will be closed from Dec. 29 to Jan. 6. Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba put the order into place to prevent the spread of coronavirus variants.

Mayor Lumumba said in a statement, “The infectious spread of COVID-19 through both the Delta and Omicron variants has continued and dramatically increased in the City of Jackson, with a corresponding increase in hospitalizations and death rates.”

The order goes into effect Wednesday, Dec. 29.

Workers are working remotely where possible to keep services operating. Offices will reopen at 8 a.m. on Jan. 6.
