The home on Valley Street will be a complete loss.

A Valley Street home that had been unoccupied for a couple of years was destroyed by fire early this morning.

Firefighters received the call of a structure fire in the 2900 block of Valley Street at 4:49 a.m. The first officer on the scene reported flames and smoke were showing. When Engine 6 from Central Fire Station and Engine 7 from Station 7 on Washington Street arrived a couple of minutes later, the structure was over 50% engulfed. By the time water was supplied moments later, the 80-year-old wooden structure was fully engulfed in flames.

Vicksburg firefighters respond to unattended blaze

Published

on

Vicksburg firefighters were dispatched to 2560 Warrenton Road Monday morning for a structure fire.

This was the scene of a fire several weeks ago. Someone had started a fire in the debris from the original structure. Passersby saw the flames and were concerned that a possibly occupied camper on the property was in danger.

Ladder 15 responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the blaze. Vicksburg Fire Department Investigator Nathaniel Williams also responded to the scene.

Within Vicksburg city limits it is illegal to burn debris without contacting the fire department for permission. To do so, a readily available water source must be available in case the fire begins to spread.

Contact the Vicksburg Fire Department at 601-636-1603 to obtain a burn permit.

This incident is under investigation.
