Vicksburg native MMA fighter Martin Brown knocks out Juan Pina in 58 seconds

Vicksburg native Martin Brown defeated Juan Pino in a MMA bare knuckle fight Friday in Plant City, Florida.

Before the fight, Brown announced he could knock out Pino in the first round.

“I think I can get get him out of there in the first round,” Brown said in an interview with Bare Knuckle News. “If I use one hand I can get him out of there in the second round.”

Brown fulfilled that promise when he gave Pino a left hook followed by multiple head blows. Brown kept punishing Pino, but the referee called off the fight, and Brown won by technical knockout.

The big fight lasted only 58 seconds, and Brown left the ring to celebrate his victory.

Montgomery, Jones and Stamps are outstanding blockers for the Gators

Three Vicksburg High School football players did some outstanding blocking in Friday’s game against Ridgeland High School.

Michael Montgomery, Cameron Stamps and Joshua Jones all paved the way for the Gators running game Friday which helped put 32 points on the scoreboard for Vicksburg.

Montgomery and Jones play on the offensive line and are considered two of the best lineman in Vicksburg due to their aggressiveness on the field.

Stamps plays tight end for the Gators where he mostly run blocks for the team in VHS’ running the ball in the Wing-T offense.

Montgomery, Jones and Stamps put in hard work on the line to help teammates Alex Jefferson, Laurence Sullivan, and Keveon Smith score touchdowns Friday in the 32-49 loss.

All three have improved each week and are heavily coached by VHS offensive lineman coach Andre Bennett. They are expected to have a big game Thursday when VHS plays Canton High School at Warren Central starting at 7 p.m.

Michael Banks and Austin Greer shined on the football field Tuesday

Third graders Michael Banks and Austin Greer both shined on the football field Tuesday night with the YMCA flag football league.

Banks plays for the Sharks where he led his team to a 18-6 victory over the Vikings. He ended the game with three touchdowns by throwing a passing touchdown to Jaden Green,  scoring on a long run, and catching an interception and returning it for a touchdown.

Banks is a third grader at Bowmar Elementary where he is known for loving sports.

Austin Greer scored the only touchdown made by the Vikings last night in the loss against the Sharks. Greer scored on a long touchdown run where he ran past multiple defenders and hit the sideline where no one was able to catch him.

Greer is a third grader at Bovina Elementary and is a dedicated team player for the Vikings.
