The Mississippi State Department of Health reports that 1,234 cases of COVID-19 were reported in the last week, along with 22 deaths. There are 110 patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 statewide, with 28 of those in intensive care units.
The delta variant of the virus also made a significant rise, increasing from 29 cases to 78. The delta variant not only causes more severe illness, but also spreads more easily from person to person.
More than 978,000 Mississippians have been fully vaccinated, with 16,761 of those in Warren County, equating to 37% of the county population. In spite of the low vaccination percentage, Warren County has not seen a death attributed to COVID-19 in six weeks.
MSDH continues to stress the benefits of the vaccine and reports that almost all recent hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19 are occurring in unvaccinated individuals. Furthermore, all recent deaths in those under 50-years-old were unvaccinated.
