BREAKING: Vicksburg Police take three suspects into custody for shooting

Vicksburg police officers responded to a shooting today just before 4 p.m. at the Days Inn on Warrenton Road.

The victim was shot in the neck and was transported to Merit Health River Region for evaluation. His condition is unknown.

“We’re just praying for the victim right now,” said Police Chief Milton Moore, who was on the scene

Capt. Mike Bryant praised the quick work of the dispatchers on this call.

Police took three suspects into custody, two males and one female, Moore said.

Vicksburg Police seeking help in locating William Taylor

The Vicksburg Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating William Alexander Taylor.

Taylor, 30, is wanted for discharging a firearm in the city limits and for weapon possession by a felon.

Harris arrested for 2018 murder

Vicksburg Police have arrested a man for first degree murder.

Carlos Maurice Harris, 28, is charged in the Aug. 22, 2018, killing of his then-girlfriend Jasmine Nicole Adams, 25, at her home on Lake Hill Drive.

At the time of the murder, Harris told police Adams had been shot by a home invader posing as a police officer. He and Adams’ children were inside the home at the time of the killing and were unharmed.

The Vicksburg Police Department has been focusing on unsolved homicides since Mayor and Police Commissioner George Flaggs Jr. restructured the department last month, according to a release. Several investigators were assigned to review all the evidence in the case, which led to Harris’ arrest.

In addition to the murder charge, Harris also faces charges for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a handgun by a felon.

Harris will appear in Vicksburg Municipal Court Friday, Nov. 15, around 10 a.m. before Judge Angela Carpenter. Until then, he is being held in the Madison County jail without bond.

VPD make arrest in Sept. 22 shootout and in marijuana seizure

Vicksburg Police officers arrested Jadaruice Devoils, 19, on Nov. 12, on two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, stemming from a fight that occurred near the Waffle House on North Frontage Road on Sept. 22, 2019.

Two people were shot as a result of that incident: Shemar Keyon Anderson, 18, was shot in the chest area, and Jatavius Devoils, 18, was shot in the hip area.

Jadaruice Devoils appeared in City of Vicksburg Municipal Court this morning, Nov. 13, 2019, before Judge Allen Derivaux and was bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury on $150,000.00 bond.

Also on Nov. 13, Jalen Williams, 23, turned himself in to Vicksburg Police on a warrant for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Williams’ arrest follows the seizure of approximately six pounds of high-grade marijuana found in a residence on Ken Karyl Avenue Nov. 5, 2019. Williams is the second suspect arrested in connection with this case.

After spending the night in the Madison County Jail, Williams will have his Initial appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court tomorrow, Nov. 14, 2019.

Leon Devell Rodgers is wanted on domestic violence charges.

Still at large from the warrant that resulted in the drug seizure is Leon Devell Rodgers, 47, wanted for aggravated assault domestic violence, strangulation.

Reports of shots fired

On Nov. 12, 2019, officers responded to two calls of shots fired, one in the area of Drummond and Speed streets and the other in the vicinity of Washington and Thomas streets.

In both cases, when offers arrived on scene, they saw no signs of suspicious activity and found no signs of shots fired.
