If you tune into Mississippi Public Broadcasting (channel 29) tonight, you will see some familiar faces showing you how to jug fish for catfish.

Charles and Christin Toney, Chuck and Pam Marascalco and Charlene Toney will be featured on the MPB show “Mississippi Outdoors” Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m.  The program will air again Saturday, Oct. 24, at 5:30 p.m.

The episode will also be featured on the Mississippi Outdoors YouTube page and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks website.

Application period open for waterfowl draw hunt

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks has made procedural changes to waterfowl draw hunts on wildlife management areas for the 2020-21 hunting season. Due to ongoing health concerns from COVID-19, drawing procedures have been altered to limit close interactions between individuals who are visiting or working on these areas. New procedures for the upcoming hunting season are outlined below:

  • All waterfowl draw hunt applications for the season (up to 5 draw periods per WMA) will be open concurrently from Oct. 1 to Oct. 15 and all drawings will be completed by Nov. 1.
  • Hunting units will be assigned when draw winners are notified.
  • Drawn hunters will have 48 hours to confirm their reservation online before it goes back into a second refill drawing.
  • Applicants who are not initially drawn will be entered into the refill drawing for a chance to fill any hunting positions that were not confirmed.
  • Drawn hunters and their guests must sign in by 5 a.m. the morning of their hunt and will proceed to their hunting unit.
  • Howard Miller, Mahannah and Muscadine Farms WMAs will have stand-by opportunity for non-drawn hunters to show up the morning of a hunt for a chance to fill any vacant hunting units.

Applications for WMA draw hunts can be found online. Hunters are reminded that not all WMAs with waterfowl hunting opportunity require a draw permit to hunt, and specific regulations for each WMA should be reviewed before hunting.

Henry M. Trim Jr., 1946 – 2020

Henry M. Trim Jr.

Henry M. Trim Jr. passed away Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, at Promise Hospital in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was 73.

Henry was born in Port Gibson, Mississippi, Dec. 13, 1946, the son of Henry M. Trim Sr. and Emma Louise Monk Trim. Henry loved to hunt and fish, but his true passion was selling watermelons and sweet potatoes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Ricky Trim, and his brothers Jerry Trim and Wayne Trim.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Trim; sisters Dorothy Landrum (Elton) of Laurel, Mississippi, Joyce Marie Charrier of Sheridan, Arkansas, Ida Perkins (James) of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Jean Williams of Foxworth, Mississippi; and grandchildren Zack Trim and Nathan Trim.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020. at Glenwood Funeral Home of Port Gibson with Rev. Cliff Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will follow in Hermanville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be James Hunt, Mike Hunt, David Trim, Steve Trim, Cole Trim and Jimmy Emerson. Honorary pallbearers will be John Perkins, Tim Hunt, Charles Nichols, Brian Eggleston, Abe Gines and Bo Trim.
