Blackburn Motors hit by car thieves

Blackburn Motors, 2135 North Frontage Road, was the scene of a business burglary and auto theft Monday around 7 a.m.

Vicksburg police have issued a regional be-on-the-lookout alert for a 2020 black Dodge Challenger that was driven off the showroom floor through a door. Witnesses reported that the vehicle fled eastbound on Interstate 20. It was later reported that the vehicle was spotted near Flowers.

A 2020 blue Dodge Ram pickup truck and a gray 2011 Dodge Charger were also stolen.

Greenwood mass shooter in custody

Police in Greenwood, Mississippi, have a suspect in custody for the Oct. 24 mass shooting that left two dead and eight others wounded.

Although police would not release his name, Deputy Chief Marvin Hammond Sr. of the Greenwood Police Department did say the suspect is a black male about 26 years old.

Hammond indicated that the suspect will be arraigned Friday afternoon in the city’s municipal court. The charges will likely include two counts of murder, eight counts of aggravated assault as well as a firearm possession charge as a felon. Hammond said the suspect is currently on parole; however, he could not immediately provide details on the previous charge. The weapon used was an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.

The two people killed are siblings, Jonathan Pitts, 42, and his sister Katrina Pitts, 41, both of Chicago, who were in town for the funeral of their grandmother. The shooting occurred at a gathering after the funeral.

Those who survived the shooting have mostly been treated and released, Hammond said.

Police will release the suspect’s name once he has been formally charged.

Robber uses a gun to steal bike from 13-year-old

The Vicksburg Police Department reports the following incidents occurred Monday, Oct. 26, and Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Monday at 5:52 p.m. officers with the Vicksburg Police Department responded to the area of Fairground Street in reference to a strong-arm robbery. The complainant stated that an unknown black male pushed his 13-year-old son off his bike, and when his son tried to retrieve his bike, the unknown male pointed a gun at him.

On Tuesday at 8:11 p.m. officers responded to the 400 block of Cain Ridge Road in reference to shots fired. According to witnesses, subjects in a maroon sedan fired six shots. One 9-mm shell casing was recovered at the scene. An hour later, officers were dispatched to Domino’s Pizza, 725 Highway 61 South, where one of the delivery drivers reported someone had shot at his car while he was stopped at the intersection of Cain Ridge Road and Columbia Avenue. A bullet hole was found in the trunk of the vehicle.

Tuesday at 8:41 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 700 block of Fort Hill Drive in reference to an auto burglary. The victim stated that an unknown black male entered his 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe and took less than $10 in loose change.

VPD reports two burglaries and an auto theft Saturday

On Saturday, Oct. 24, Vicksburg police officers responded to two burglaries, one residential and one auto, and an auto theft.

At 11:17 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 1700 block of Grove Street in reference to a residential burglary. The victim reported someone kicked his front door and stole a Craftsman miter box saw and a 150-pound air compressor. Total value of the missing items is estimated to be $550.

At 7:07 p.m. officers responded to Hobby Lobby, 3505 Pemberton Square Blvd., in reference to an auto burglary. According to the victim, someone entered her 1999 Toyota Camry and stole groceries, a pair of Air Jordan’s, a comforter bedding set and household goods. Total value of the stolen items is estimated to be $688.

At 6:57 p.m., officers responded to the Best Western, 2445 N. Frontage Road, in reference to an auto theft. The victim stated someone stole his 2012 Ford F-250 truck from the hotel parking lot. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the keys in the center console.
