Apartment fire on Markham Street in Vicksburg

Vicksburg firefighters responded to an apartment building at 1001 Markham St. Wednesday just before 1 p.m.

No one was hurt, and the cause of the blaze is unknown at this time. Deputy Fire Marshall Kayla Riggs and Vicksburg Fire Investigator Nathaniel Williams are trying to determine the cause of the fire.

Two cats were rescued. Capt. Chris Holman brought the first one out and Capt. Aaron Greer the second.

The building is owned by Tim and Lucy Derosette.

Vicksburg Fire Department Engine 6, 7 Platform, Rescue, FD-1,2,3, Battalion 1 and Fire Medic 80 all responded to the scene.

House fire in Kings community

A home on Winters Lane in Vicksburg’s Kings community caught fire Friday just before 11 a.m.

Firefighters from the Vicksburg Fire Department were able to extinguish the blaze, leaving the home moderately damaged but saving most of the structure. No one was injured as a result of the fire.

The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation.

Leaf fire spread to neighboring wooden fence in Openwood Plantation Tuesday

A fire in the Openwood Plantation subdivision was quickly extinguished by Warren County firefighters Tuesday afternoon.

The fire was located at a wooden fence at 102 Plantation Drive, and a passerby alerted firefighters to the scene shortly after 4 p.m. The adjacent homeowner was burning leaves and the fire spread catching the fence on fire, according to Warren County Fire Coordinator Jerry Briggs. A classic pickup parked near the fence was not damaged and no one was injured.

Culkin Engines 204 and 209 responded to the scene.

Fire destroys a vehicle at Belmont and Drummond in Vicksburg

Vicksburg police and firefighters responded to the area of Belmont and Drummond streets at around 1:15 p.m. for a vehicle fire.

The crew of Engine 6, dispatched from the Central Fire Station, found the vehicle heavily engulfed in flames when they arrived. They quickly extinguished the blaze; however, the vehicle is damaged beyond repair.

The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation.

Please use caution in the area while first responders are on the scene.
