Warren County Sheriff’s Deputies detained a 17-year-old Warren County youth early Sunday morning following a domestic incident in which the teenager’s father was shot.

At around 1:20 a.m. Sunday morning, deputies responded to a residence in the 100 block of Rebecca Evans Road, off of Highway 80. The call was in reference to an earlier burglary.

Within a couple of minutes, Merit Health River Region notified Vicksburg-Warren 911 that a gunshot victim had arrived at the emergency department by private vehicle.

An investigation revealed that there had been an altercation between the husband and wife at this location. The 17-year-old intervened and shot his father with what is commonly called rat shot or light bird shot. Warren County Sheriff’s Investigator Sam Winchester along with Sgt. Silento McMorris and Deputy Ron Nation conducted the investigation.

The teenager was detained and processed into the Warren County jail, according to Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace. After conferring with District Attorney Ricky Smith, the case will be reviewed by an upcoming term of the Warren County grand jury to determine if charges will be pursued, Pace said.

The youth has been released from custody.
